Old Fashioned Racism

Modern prejudice

Here’s the first thing to understand: Modern prejudice is not your grandparents’ prejudice.

Old-fashioned racism and sexism were known quantities because people would mostly say what they thought. Blacks were lazy; Jews were sly; women were either dumb or bitchy. Modern equivalents continue, of course—look at current portrayals of Mexican immigrants as criminals (when, in fact, crime rates in Latino neighborhoods are lower than those of other ethnic groups at comparable socioeconomic levels). Most estimates suggest such blatant and wrongheaded bigotry persists among only 10 percent of citizens in modern democracies. Blatant bias does spawn hate crimes, but these are fortunately rare (though not rare enough). At the very least, we can identify the barefaced bigots.

Lulu? Will you feel this way?

“I was angry in Korea . I had been angry all of my life because I was an odd construction of a person: a Korean-looking girl on the outside, a Caucasian-sounding girl on the inside. I didn’t know who I was, and I was having a hard time accepting the parts I did know about myself. My background read like that of a hundred thousand other Korean adoptees: I was abandoned as a young child and found in a “police box.”

USA TODAY: This is about us.

Ok, it’s not really about us. But trust when I say I know of the Markoffs and Jodi and I have exchanged emails. We are all hoping the best comes soon.

“There was never proof” of irregularities, she says. “We felt betrayed by our own government.”

I know how they feel!!!

However, Diane Kunz, executive director of the Center for Adoption Policy, a research group, says the State Department sometimes is too quick to reject adoptions from nations not meeting the Hague guidelines.

Wow, Lulu you are nine months old!!!

Now, and for the next few months, separation anxiety is at its peak. Although it’s normal now for a baby to show an extreme attachment to you and fear of everyone else, it can be difficult for doting grandparents and caregivers. You can help ease transitions for your baby by warning people to approach slowly and let your baby make the first move.

Negative Baby Time?

We have entered into a time in which T calls it, “Negative Baby Time.”

It means we thought baby would be here by now, and that activities would be with her by now. We really enjoyed our last this as a couple and our last that as a couple, but now it is our second and third LAST TIME AS A COUPLE on many many many things.

Oh Lulu, do you?

I wonder if she does these things….

from babycenter.com:

A baby who can stand with the support of a chair or by holding on to your fingers is not far from being able to stand alone. Most babies take their first independent steps around their first birthday, but this is one milestone with a huge range. Some babies walk as early as 7 or 8 months, while others, who are also perfectly normal, don’t start strutting their stuff until 18 months.

I think I do need Anger Management :)
